Happy Monday! It’s summer so I am reading my favorite personal reads as well as my book study for school right now. I am kind of in a reading slump but cannot wait to share what I have been reading so far.
Book Study
The 7 Habits of Highly Effective People by Stephen R. Covey

For my summer book study this year we are reading The 7 Habits of Highly Effective People by Stephen R. Covey. So far, we have dove into Habits 1 through 4. We just recently finished Habit 4: Think Win-Win and here are my insights from this chapter.
There are six paradigms of human interaction: Win/Win, Win/Lose, Lose/Win, Lose/Lose, Win, and Win/Win or No Deal. All of these paradigms have a place in life and I do feel like I have witnessed them all in one way or another. Win/Win is the frame of mine where everyone benefits which is what this habit is teaching us about the most. Achieving Win/Win is not always possible which is where Win/Win or No Deal comes into play. Rather than compromising and making a different deal that is not ideal, if you cannot find a solution that will benefit everyone, then you agree on No Deal. I really liked this idea. While I can see where there are times this clearly would not work, I like that Win/Win and Win/Win or No Deal show immense maturity and consideration for both parties. It’s all about balance and consideration.
Favorite quote: “Real self-respect comes from dominion over self, from true independence…Interdependence is a choice only independent people can make.”
Fun Read
Heat of the Everflame by Penn Cole

For fun reading, I have been in the Kindred Curse Saga by Penn Cole. I am currently on book 3, Heat of the Everflame, and am almost done (78%). This series was difficult for me to get into at first due to the slower place and it is an extremely slow burn for romance lovers. So slow, I found myself upset with the main character at multiple points though book 1 and 2. Even with that being said, I do enjoy this book dearly and cannot wait to finish it. Penn Cole does a great job at making the FMC’s journey easy to follow and her world building is amazing and gets progressively stronger throughout the series.
I don’t want to leave spoilers so I will just say, if you like fantasy I would give this series a try; however, it is not a completed series so you will probably be left with a cliff hanger….at least that’s where I see this book headed.
Up Next…
For book study, my next chapters are focused on Habits 5: Seek First to Understand Then to be Understood and Habit 6: Synergize. This is a lot of reading this week so hopefully I can get it all in.
My next fun read is going to be One Dark Window by Rachel Gillig. I have heard a lot of good things about this book and cannot wait to dive in (even if it takes me a couple weeks to finish my current read).
